About the preserve
There’s a quiet rhythm to the perfect hunt
The sweep of native grass around your feet, the sudden rise of a covey, the crack of your shotgun, and the calm that settles in between. Backcountry Shooting Preserve was built around that feeling.
Rooted in Glasgow, Kentucky, Backcountry is managed wholeheartedly for quail. We hunt behind field trial champion pointers and English cockers, with every hunt guided and paced perfectly to enjoy the experience.
Our goal is to offer the highest-level upland experience — built for people who appreciate the details, the dog work, and the kind of place that still does things right.
The ground itself
Native.
Step past the treeline and the modern world thins out — wind through the broomsedge, a far-off dog bell, and ground that still remembers how Kentucky used to sound.
We pride ourselves on the fully native landscape we have at Backcountry Shooting Preserve. Grasses, wildflowers and food plots placed to hold coveys the right way — not a course cut through a hayfield.

The ground is yours
One party on the preserve at a time — your guide, your dogs, your coveys. From the first field to the last, nobody else’s truck in the lot and nobody over the hill. The whole place hunts like it belongs to you, because for the day, it does.

The Backcountry Difference
There’s an aura around a pointer locked up facing cover. You wait on him while the cockers are cut loose — and then the covey explodes out of the grass, shots ring out, and the pointer stands dead still through the whole of it. The cockers work the fall and bring every bird back to hand. Top-class dogs, top-class performances. That’s the Backcountry difference.

Hunt. Don’t count.
The bag is unlimited and nobody’s keeping score against a limit. No per-bird math, no watching a tally — and breaking the course record is welcomed.

A chef-cooked Southern lunch at the Farm House Lodge, and on the Champions Hunt — a hand-cut ribeye over open flame, bourbon by the fire, and a bed steps from the fields.

One rate covers your party, up to four hunters. Whether two of you come or four, the price is the same. Built to enjoy the experience, not count the price.
While our pricing is set for a group of four shooters, groups smaller than four shooters can be accommodated.

The Covey Rise

The Champions Hunt

Afternoon hunt, a night at the Farm House Lodge, morning hunt. The Backcountry Cut steak dinner, bourbon and cigars by the fire, hot country breakfast, and concierge planning throughout.
À la carte this comes to $6,660. The package saves $260.

Lodging
The Farm House Lodge
Tucked deep in the heart of the preserve, the lodge sits quietly among the rolling hills and bird fields, just steps from where the day’s stories begin.
It sleeps four across two bedrooms — two beds in each room, with one bath shared between them. It’s the kind of place that gives you the “kick up your feet and stay a while” feeling.
Step out onto the big front porch and listen to the quail whistle through the pines as the sun sets over the fields. After the hunt, gather around the fire pit with a good bourbon in hand and swap stories under a sky full of stars.

The table
Cooked from scratch, every plate
Our on-site chef cooks everything in the lodge kitchen — dry-aged prime beef from our friends at Rian’s Fatted Calf, seasonal vegetables from farms nearby.
Whether it’s a hand-cut prime ribeye grilled over open flame, or the slow-roasted “Momma’s Recipe” Sunday roast, you’re going to love what Chef Lucas puts on the table.
Guns put away, fire lit, and dinner in no particular hurry. Chef-crafted meals, a warm fire, and true Southern hospitality.

Do I need a hunting license?
No. No license is required to hunt at Backcountry — just show up ready to go.
How many hunters can come?
Our rates cover a party of up to four. Two hunters or four, the price is the same — you’re buying the day, the dogs, and the ground, not a seat. A fifth or sixth gun is $500 per half-day session. Larger groups can be arranged; just ask.
How many birds will we see?
A half day typically produces 12 to 18 covey rises. Weather, dogs, and how hard your group pushes all move that number — but that’s a normal day at Backcountry.
What’s the bag limit?
Backcountry is an unlimited bag operation. Hunters are encouraged to go big — breaking the course record is welcomed.
Can I bring my own dog?
Yes. Guests are welcome to bring their own dogs. You can run your dog solo or in rotation with ours. Our guides ensure a smooth, safe, and personalized experience for both dog and hunter. We also offer kenneling and overnight care for your dog while staying overnight, at no extra charge.
Do you take deposits?
A 50% deposit reserves your dates. The balance is due before your hunt or at check-in. Kentucky sales tax of 6% applies.
