We are in Barren County, in south-central Kentucky, with easy access on and off I-65. Hunts are by appointment only, so please do not drive out without a booking — call or text and we will get you on the calendar.
Driving
- Bowling Green, KY — about 30 minutes

- Louisville, KY — about 2 hours
- Nashville International Airport (BNA) — about 1 hr 50 min
- Louisville Muhammad Ali International (SDF) — about 2 hours
Coming from either direction on I-65, you will exit toward Glasgow and finish on two-lane Kentucky farm road. Nothing about the drive requires four-wheel drive or local knowledge, but cell service thins out on the last few miles — pull the directions up before you leave the interstate.
Flying in
Private aircraft — Glasgow Municipal (GLW / KGLW)
Glasgow’s own field sits about two nautical miles northwest of downtown, roughly fifteen minutes from the preserve. Runway 8/26 is 5,301 by 100 feet, asphalt, at 716 feet elevation, with an FBO on the field. It handles most turboprops and light jets comfortably. Call ahead for fuel and ground handling, and tell us your ETA — we can usually arrange a pickup.
Private aircraft — Bowling Green–Warren County Regional (BWG / KBWG)
Thirty minutes away, with a longer runway if you need it: 6,501 by 150 feet, asphalt on 3/21, plus a 3,956-foot crosswind runway. Co-Mar Aviation is the FBO, with fuel, maintenance and hangar or tie-down space. There is no scheduled airline service here — it is a general aviation field.
Commercial
Nashville International (BNA) is the practical choice at about an hour and fifty minutes, with the widest schedule and every major rental car brand on site. Louisville (SDF) is about two hours and is often the easier connection coming from the north. Rent a car at either — there is no rideshare coverage out here worth relying on.
Where to stay
The Farm House Lodge, on the property
Our own lodge sleeps four across two bedrooms — two beds in each, one bath shared between them, a big front porch and a fire pit out back. It is included in The Champions Hunt and can be added to any booking. More about the lodge.
Glasgow
Glasgow has the usual chain hotels along the US-31E corridor, ten to fifteen minutes from the preserve. Fine, clean, and close — the right answer if you just need a bed before an early hunt.
Barren River Lake State Resort Park
A Kentucky state resort park with a full lodge, cottages and a restaurant, a short drive southwest of Glasgow at 1149 State Park Road, Lucas, KY. A good option for a larger group or for family who are along but not hunting.
Bowling Green
Thirty minutes out and by far the widest selection of hotels and restaurants in the region. Worth the extra drive if you have non-hunting guests who want something to do in the afternoon.
When you arrive
- Morning hunts start around 8:30–9:00 AM — plan to be on the property fifteen minutes before.
- Afternoon hunts begin with lunch at the lodge, then the field around 1:00 PM.
- Bring your shotgun and shells, blaze orange, and boots you can walk miles in. Over/under or side-by-side in 20, 28 or .410 is preferred; semi-autos are welcome but stay open and unloaded on the course.
- No license needed — Backcountry is a licensed Kentucky shooting preserve and that covers our guests.
- Your dog is welcome, and kenneling is free if you are staying the night.
- Birds go home cleaned, packaged and iced at no charge — bring a cooler if you have a long drive.
