A round of golf gives you four hours and about twenty minutes of actual conversation. A day at Backcountry gives you a shared morning in the field, a sit-down meal at the lodge, and something your guests will still be telling people about a year later. That is the case for bringing clients here instead.
One party on the ground — always
This matters more for a company outing than for anything else we do. Backcountry hunts one party at a time across over 220 acres. There is no other group over the hill, no strangers at your table, and no one within earshot of whatever you and your guests are actually there to talk about. For the day, the place is yours.
How groups actually work here
Four guns is the sweet spot
Our rate covers a party of up to four hunters, and it is the same whether two of you come or four — you are buying the day, the dogs and the ground, not a seat. Four also matches the dog wagon and the lodge, so a party of four moves through the day without anything feeling stretched.
Five or six
A fifth or sixth gun is $500 per half-day session. That is genuinely less per gun than the party rate works out to, so a group of six is not penalised for being six.
Eight or more
We run two half-day sessions in a calendar day — one in the morning, one in the afternoon. A group of eight can split into two parties of four, hunt opposite halves of the day, and everyone sits down together for a chef-cooked lunch at the Farm House Lodge in between. It is a clean answer to a big group, and it keeps every hunter in a small party behind the dogs rather than standing in a line waiting a turn. Larger than that, call us and we will build it.
Guests who do not shoot are welcome
Not everyone you bring will hunt, and that is fine. Non-hunting guests are charged only for lodging and food — there is no separate day fee. They can ride along in the dog wagon, walk out with the group to watch the dogs work, or stay at the lodge with coffee and the fire pit.
First-time shooters are welcome too, and our guides take extra care to teach and explain rather than rushing anyone. If you are bringing a client who has never held a shotgun, tell us when you book and we will pair them accordingly.
The room and the table
Our chef cooks everything from scratch in the lodge kitchen — dry-aged prime beef from Rian’s Fatted Calf, vegetables from farms nearby. Lunch is included with every hunt. For an overnight, The Champions Hunt adds a hand-cut ribeye over open flame, bourbon and cigars by the fire once the guns are put away, and a hot country breakfast.
The Farm House Lodge sleeps four across two bedrooms. It is a farmhouse with a big front porch and a fire pit, not a resort — which for most of the groups we host is exactly the point. More about the lodge.
The practical parts
- Pricing — half days from $2,500 Mon–Thu for up to four hunters; full days from $4,700; overnights from $5,900. Full pricing.
- Deposit — 50% reserves your dates, balance due before the hunt or at check-in. Kentucky sales tax of 6% applies.
- Licenses — none required. Backcountry holds the Kentucky shooting preserve permit, which covers your guests.
- Season — August 15 through April 15, so a company hunt is not locked to the winter calendar. Season details.
- Paperwork — if your company needs an invoice, a W-9 or a certificate of insurance to process the booking, ask and we will sort it out.
